UK cops: How we sniffed out convicted AnonOps admin 'Nerdo'
Hint: Sometimes gamer tags give the game away Weatherhead (Nerdo) was a network administrator and among a small group of leaders on an AnonOps IRC channel that became the focus of a police investigation, spearheaded by members of Scotland Yard's Police Central eCrime Unit.
Former Detective Constable Trevor Dickey, who has left the Met and found work in the private sector since the successful conclusion of the investigation, explained: "In a nutshell we identified Weatherhead via the IRC network."
"We identified their IRC channels and captured several weeks of chat. During that time we looked at the status of nicks such as admins and operators," he added.
"We then did some keyword searching and spent a lot of time looking social leakage. Combining all these elements we then identified the nicks of interest and did open source research on them. Weatherhead was easy to identify as he had been using the nick of 'Nerdo' for quite some time," he concluded.

Anonymous declares war on Syrian government Web sites #OpSyria
The Middle Eastern country began experiencing an Internet outage earlier today, and many people on Twitter reported that phone lines are down as well. All 84 of Syria's IP address blocks have become unreachable, effectively removing the country from the Internet, according to Renesys, which operates a real-time grid that continuously monitors Internet routing data.
Anonymous said it had conducted an "exhaustive analysis" of the blackout and determined that the government of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad had severed fiber-optic and coaxial cables going into Syria. "Essentially, they have physically 'pulled the plug out of the wall,'" Anonymous said in a press release. "As we discovered in Egypt, where the dictator Mubarak did something similar -- this is not damage that can be easily or quickly repaired."
Characterizing the outage as a "desperate move by a dying regime," Anonymous said it would begin a campaign at 6 p.m. PT dubbed "Operation Syria" to remove all Web assets belonging to Assad's government hosted outside the country. The group said its first target would be servers for all Syrian embassies, beginning with the embassy in China.
The hacker collective has ratcheted up its online attacks against Middle East governments in recent weeks. Earlier this month, the group launched a hacking blitz on Israel in retaliation for air strikes on Gaza. The hacking spree also targeted retail and business sites, allegedly resulting in the defacement or shutdown of hundreds of sites. Israel's government said its Web sites logged more than 44 million hacking attempts in just a few days.
"By turning off the Internet in Syria, the butcher Assad has shown that the time has come for Anonymous to remove the last vestiges of his evil government from the Internet," Anonymous said.

PayPal has lost 5.57 million attacks with #Anonymous - #OpPayback
The value came during the trial of hackers involved in the denial of service attacks - when a page is bombarded with more requests than it can handle - which overthrew the PayPal website and required 100 technicians working to restore the site.
Four youths - Christopher Weatherhead, 22, Ashley Rhodes, 28, Peter Gibson, 24, and a 18 year old guy whose name was not disclosed by British justice, are being charged with conspiracy.
As the promoter Samit Patel, was used a free tool available on the Internet called Low Orbit Ion Canon (LOIC). Once downloaded, the "gun" can be used to attacks by concentrating traffic access to a specific page. Patel also said that LOIC was used in conjunction with another service, called AnonOps, which allows remote "zombie" computers to attack simultaneously.

Anonymous takes on Israeli websites, wipes Jerusalem bank
Anonymous has launched a hacking campaign against a number of Israeli sites in protest of attacks taking place on Gaza.
The hacking spree, dubbed OpIsrael, has resulted in so many Israeli websites being defaced or shut down through methods including denial of service (DoS) attacks, that it's hard to keep count. However, some enterprising hacktivists have begun compiling lists of affected websites.
Targets have included governmental, retail, and businesses -- some belonging to the automotive and fashion industries. The bank of Jerusalem has received particular attention from the hacktivists, as the cyberattackers crowed over their achievement in deleting the organisation's online database through social network Twitter.
According to the latest list, 663 sites have been affected. In an earlier blog post, the collective claimed that 127 Israeli sites were defaced in one of the first waves -- and the number keeps rising. A press release from
Anonymous says that when the government of Israel publicly threatened to sever all Internet and other telecommunications into and out of Gaza, "they crossed a line in the sand." The statement continues: "As the former dictator of Egypt Mubarack learned the hard way -- we are ANONYMOUS and NO ONE shuts down the Internet on our watch.
" Anonymous finished with a stark warning to government if it persists in trying to cut telecom and web links. In addition, the collective said that unless attacks cease, the Israeli government "will know the full and unbridled wrath of Anonymous. And like all the other evil governments that have faced our rage, you will NOT survive it unscathed."

Anonymous attacked 40 sites the government of Israel! #OpIsrael
After the Israeli army killing a military high command of Hamas on Wednesday (14), hackers affiliated with Anonymous began attacking websites Israeli retaliation, according to the New York Times.
The operation called #OpIsrael began at 6am (GMT) on Thursday (15) and was announced on the group's Twitter profile. To date, 40 sites in the country suffered attacks related to the army, the banks and airlines and Israeli security.
Also according to the New York Times, page Israeli army came to be replaced by an image of Gaza in flames, followed by the message: - Stop Bombing Gaza! Thousands of Israelis and Palestinians are passing sleepless nights, vulnerable and terrified.
To organize the operation, hackers recruited volunteers on Twitter and Pastebin, site frequently used by Anonymous to publish information about the attacks. Hackers used a relatively simple tool for action: a malicious link was sent to the site server. Once accessed, the program connected the server to a computer network, allowing traffic to slow until complete collapse.

Anonymous Hackers may have hacked Former CIA Director
CIA Director was uncovered when a woman described as close to him received harassing emails and complained to authorities. The FBI traced the emails and found that they had been sent by Paula Broadwell, who wrote a highly favorable book on the former Army general's life and work.
While initially investigating the reports, the FBI feared the CIA director's personal email account may have been hacked, but the sexual nature of the email exchanges exposed the affair.
A Yahoo email account belonging to former CIA Director David Petraeus may have been compromised by the group Anonymous. The personal email account was exposed during the the leak of commercial intelligence company STRATFOR by Anonymous Hackers, among other millions of email accounts of customers belongs to the company.
The emails sent by Broadwell indicated that she perceived the other woman as a threat to her relationship with Petraeus, law enforcement officials. Anonymous also obtained email logins to STRATFOR's website which potentially could have been used by Paula Broadwell for email or other secure sites as well as correspondence. Broadwell was reportedly under investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation for allegedly trying to obtain access to the retired general's classified emails. Broadwell, a married mother of two young sons, apparently had no idea any of this was coming.

The activist hacker group Anonymous has scheduled for today a global protest, including cyberattacks on schedule and a march in front of the White House in the United States, and the British Parliament, in order to defend their causes.
And perhaps the first victim of the group has been the online payment service PayPal According to news site The Next Web, Anonymous claims to have stolen passwords of 28,000 business accounts.
Would be included along with the passwords information such as names, addresses and phone numbers, now under the control of digital activists. PayPal questions the veracity of the information because so far not identified any security breach. However, the company says it is investigating the case.

Anonymous leaked 1GB data from Italian State Police!
Obviously the data is in Italian, thus limited information is available at this time. But several Italian researchers are busy with assessing the material already. We like to point out the sample folder which contains assorted material from the archives, like details about wiretaps from Telcom Italia and confidential technical information about interception devices.
An Italian statement about the release can be found here.

After criticism, Assange warns Anonymous on intervention FBI
The founder of WikiLeaks, Julian Assange, the hacker group Anonymous warned that obtained information on how the FBI has accessed their servers several times, said the Red portal Nacion, on Thursday (18/10).
The warning came after the controversial criticism of WikiLeaks by Anonymous to introduce a system of payment to access the contents of the site of secret documents. A few days ago, before the information public, go through a payment system, the "paywall". The rationale is to maintain a form of financing for the entity.
Assange "responded" to the criticism by stating that the group knows of intervention by the FBI, but that the "luck" of Anonymous would be the fact that there is no "direction" some among its members.

News @Anon_Central regarding the suspension of his Twitter account
Dear friends,
We’re so happy to know that many of you love the account this much although sometimes we post stuffs which may have pissed you off. You people are truly amazing and no matter what, you are Anonymous. You are the real power which made us keep going even in the darkest time. Anon_Central is just an account which was trying to change the reality and people perceptions about issues and society.. used by few of us. So it’s okay, if you follow the idea, if you love the idea, you are anonymous, just keep on tweeting about freedom, activism and keep helping your fellow anons. Or there are many anons who are doing the same thing! Follow them! Support them! —-
Anyway about the suspension, twitter have not given any reason for suspension and I’ve just submitted an appeal against it so let’s wait for few days for their action. Let’s hope they know about free speech and all the shits going on in the world right now because of their masters.
We’ve heard many good things about twitter about following their ethics on their users so let’s see where they stand on this one. We really love all of you who are supporting the account but please don’t make threats or do any other silly things. We do not attack any media or social sites because for the obvious reasons. So keep calm and keep tweeting. This is your time and the time is short, the great awakening is coming very fast. So there’s no reason to fight about small things really.
WE are Anonymous<
Time for us to forgive<

Former LulzSec hacker pleads guilty to Sony case
After last year's big PlayStation Network hack a lot of hacking groups such as Anonymous and LulzSec were intensely publicized. Back in June, a massive hack was conducted on the Sony Pictures Website. The attack led to the theft of details on over 1 million accounts and was linked to the hacker group Lulzsec.
At the time, the hacker group claimed to have used a “very simple SQL injection” attack. Samples of the compromised data were later posted online. Purported LulzSec member Raynaldo Rivera, 20, was charged in August with impairing a protected computer and conspiracy charges. In admitting his guilt, he joins Cody Kretsinger, who also pleaded guilty for the Sony Pictures hijack. Kretsinger is scheduled to be sentenced on 25th October.
"Rivera used the HideMyAss anonymising proxy service in an attempt to disguise his IP address while he carried out reconnaissance work, probing Sony Pictures' website for security vulnerabilities. HideMyAss turned over his IP address after the authorities issued a court order, ultimately exposing Rivera's identity." John Leyden explained in Theregister.
Investigations were made in both the U.S. and Europe. Although not all culprits were caught, two ex-members of hacker group LulzSec admitted they are guilty in this case. Cody Kretsinger got a plea bargain with prosecutors in April this year.
The information that the hacker stole resulted in over $605,000 in financial losses. Part of the plea agreement will see Riviera paying restitution to the victims of the crime and facing prison time. The hacker is facing a maximum of five years in prison, and the fine will be at least $250,000.

WikiLeaks note on Anonymous
Basic solidarity in WikiLeaks & Anonymous.
By Julian Assange
Freedom isn't free, justice isn't free and solidarity isn't free. They all require generosity, self-discipline, courage and a sense of perspective.
Groups with unity flourish and those without unity are destroyed and replaced by those who have it. Traditional armies gain unity through isolation, ritualized obedience, and through coercive measures applied to dissenters up to and including death.
Groups who do not have techniques of unity derived from solidarity and common cause will be dominated by groups with coercive unity. In the end it is the techniques of unity that dominate our civilization. Unified groups grow and multiply. Groups which lack unity imperil themselves and their allies.
It doesn't matter what principles a group espouses. If it is not able to demonstrate basic unity it will be dominated by alliances that do.
When a group grows large the public press becomes a medium through which the group talks to itself. This gives the public press influence over the groups self-awareness. The public press has its agendas. So do insiders who speak to it.
For large groups, group insiders who interface with the public press are able to lever themselves into a position of internal influence via press influence.
Because Anonymous is anonymous, those who obtain this or other forms of leadership influence can be secretly decapitated and replaced by other interests.
This is exactly what happened in the Sabu affair. An important part of Anonymous ended up being controlled by the FBI. The cooption of its most visible figure, Sabu, was then used to entrap others.
FBI agents or informers have subsequently run entrapment operations against WikiLeaks presenting as figures from Anonymous. According to FBI indictments the FBI has at various times controlled Anonymous servers.
We must assume that currently a substantial number of Anonymous severs and "leadership" figures are compromised. This doesn't mean Anonymous should be paralyzed by paranoia. But it must recognize the reality of infiltration. The promotion of "anonhosting.biz" and similar assets which are indistinguishable from an entrapment operations must not be tolerated.
The strength of Anonymous was not having leadership or other targetable assets. When each person has little influence over the whole, and no assets have special significance, compromise operations are expensive and ineffective. The cryptography used in Friends of WikiLeaks is based on this principle while WikiLeaks as an organization has a well tested public leadership cohort inorder to prevent covert leadership replacement. Assets create patronage and conflict around asset control.
This includes virtual assets such as servers, Twitter accounts and IRC channels. The question Anonymous must ask is does it want to be a mere gang ("expect us") or a movement of solidarity. A movement of solidaarity obtains its unity through common value and through the symbolic celebration of individuals whose actions strive towards common virtues.
Assessing the statement by "@AnonymousIRC". In relation to alleged associates of WikiLeaks. It is rarely in an alleged associates interest, especially early in a case, for us to be seen to be helping them or endorsing them. Such actions can be used as evidence against them. It raises the prestige stakes for prosecutors who are likely to use these alleged associates in a public proxy war against WikiLeaks. We do not publicly campaign for alleged associates until we know their legal team approves and our private actions must remain private. This calculous should be obvious.
Several weeks ago, WikiLeaks began a US election related donations campaign which expires on election day, Nov 6. The WikiLeaks campaign pop-up, which, was activated weeks ago, requires tweeting, sharing, waiting or donating once per day. Torrents, unaffected even by this pop-up remain available from the front page. These details should have been clearer but were available to anyone who cared to read. The exact logic and number of seconds are in the page source.
We are time and resource constrained. We have many battles to deal with. Other than adding a line of clarification, we have not changed the campaign and nor do we intend to. We know it is annoying. It is meant to be annoying. It is there to remind you that the prospective destruction of WikiLeaks by an unlawful financial blockade and an array of military, intelligence, DoJ and FBI investigations, and associated court cases is a serious business.
WikiLeaks faces unprecedented costs due to involvement in over 12 concurrent legal matters around the world, including our litigation of the US military in the Bradley Manning case. Our FBI file as of the start of the year had grown to 42,135 pages. US officials stated to Australian diplomats the the investigation into WikiLeaks is of "unprecedented scale and nature".
Our people are routinely detained. Our editor was imprisoned, placed under house arrest for 18 months, and is now encircled in an embassy in London where he has been formally granted political asylum. Our people and associates are routinely pressured by the FBI to become informers against our leadership. Since late 2010 we have been under an unlawful financial blockade.
The blockade was found to be unlawful in the Icelandic courts, but the credit companies have appealed to the Supreme Court. Actions in other jurisdictions are in progress, including a European Commission investigation which has been going for over a year.
Despite this we have won every publishing battle and prevailed over every threat. Last month the Pentagon reissued its demands for us to cease publication of military materials and to cease "soliciting" US military sources. We will prevail there also, not because we are adept, although we are, but because to do so is a virtue that creates common cause.
Solidarity.

Solidarity.

Anonymous shut down the website of the PolicĂa de Colombia by maltreatment in indignant! #13O #GlobalNoise
Anonymous claimed responsibility for the 'hacking' the portal of the National Police of Colombia, who suffered a stroke over 18 hours. Anonymous responded to what they consider "abuse of authority" by the police when they proceeded to disperse the march of "outraged" that demonstrated on Friday across the country.
Before running the cyber attack, Anonymous Colombia broadcast images that can be seen in the police assault, rioting and clashes between protesters and riot police officers.
This Friday in the framework of the National March of Indignation thousands of Colombians took to the streets of major cities to express their dissatisfaction with the social situation experienced by the South American nation.
